Najla Altwaijry holds a DPhil in Mathematics from the University of Oxford and both a master’s
and bachelor’s degree in Mathematics with first-class honours from King Saud University. With
over 25 years of experience in education, she is dedicated to empowering students through
science.
Najla began her career as a teaching assistant in the Mathematics Department at King Saud
University (KSU) and progressed to vice dean of the Deanship of Graduate Studies. Currently, she is
the General Manager of the Public and Education Sector at the Saudi Data and Artificial
Intelligence Authority (SDAIA).
Najla has served on various committees and is a member of several specialized
mathematical societies, including SAMS, BMS, and AMS. She has been recognized with awards
such as the Almarai Prize for Scientific Innovation (2008) and the King Saud University Award
for Scientific Excellence (2019).
Najla initiated the first Saudi National Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence, which saw over
260,000 registrations and awarded 70 winners. She launched the "Future Intelligence
Programmers" training program for high school students, training over 15,000 students, and in
collaboration with the Ministry of Education, launched the AI Hour, benefiting more than
575,000 students. At the Center of Excellence for AI in Education, she is developing AI use cases in education, including a smart
learning management system and an AI tutor.
Najla's vision is to leverage artificial intelligence to create more personalized and effective
learning experiences for students throughout the Kingdom. She believes in the transformative
power of AI to enhance educational outcomes and prepare the next generation for the future.
